Thankyou. Back at you. Whenever you are ready..I'm available...I started on quarter horses and a paint mare. So, I've ridden both gaited and non gaited horses...even peruvian paso's and paso finos. All horses are fun!!

Welcome Amanda...I'm the lady that is renting Deb Taylor's brick house. Cant wait to move and get settled. I understand you'll be trailering your horse for schooling up to her house soon. That will be cool. Deb sent you a pic of my mare that I used to own...who was my partner in crime in show, on trail, and as a mommy. She was Ebony Masterpiece and Mack K ...Midnight Sun...etc... lines. I also had a bunch more...but right now.. I'm horseless and do teach dressage and show "intro.." to Kur for the tn walker. I do trail but not that often. My career was in the show ring...but now its just continue education and so forth and so on.. see where the road or the journey leads me...Tell me about you and your horse...
Greetings...from horsville..lol

Amanda,

It was great to meet you and Carl! Thanks so much for loaning the bits....I already have the Robarts on the bridle ready to go.

I was curious about Sweet Tea's background, so I got out her papers. Pride's Generator is her grandfather and then further down the line Midnight Sun shows up twice and also Mack K's Handshaker, all world champions. I believe I noticed a distinct lack of champion lines during the notorius big lick days and hope that is a good sign. I did come across an awesome website on Pride's Generator and there were pics of him on the trail so that made me feel better about Sweet Tea's chances of making a decent trail horse :)

Did you locate the house on Bernice Road? I wonder if it had acreage with it. It certainly is an awesome location for trail riding enthusiasts.

Amanda,

Just about any day will work for me. I also remembered that I have a driving harness that I haven't used in eons. I checked it out and it still has a driving bit....a jointed snaffle with a 1/2 cheek that I can try too. Any bit you are able to bring would be great. It is raining, thundering and lightning so I'm sure i won't see you today! Just give me a call when you have the time and feel up to it :)

Sweet Tea gives to the bit fairly well. We practice lateral flexion from the ground too. And if she is in the round pen or riding arena (small 60 X 120) she is very responsive and reins easily. But once I get her out in a larger area she has to be reminded to keep it to a walk and that is where I use one rein to disengage her hindquarters. I have thought about putting her in a D ring or full cheek snaffle since I know a snaffle would be more comfortable, but she has some motor on her and I am afraid that I may not get her to flex in an emergency....you know how those necks can suddenly turn to wood! I would absolutely love to try your Imus bit since it has the leverage of a curb but is not suppposed to pinch the tongue or any other part of the mouth. Is the mouthpiece the one that has the roller in the middle? I would be happy to come and get it or you (and Carl too if he wants) are welcome to come out here and I could just try it out. It would be a great chance to meet both of you. If you aren't using the Imus, maybe you'd like to sell it if it comes down to it. In either case, I would love a chance to give it a try. My cell phone is 549-5867. I'm home most of the time, but not always in the house. I carry my cell phone on me :)

Oh...bit problem, not bite problem.

Amanda, Maybe you could give me some advice.....Sweet Tea's former owner had ridden her in a Tom Thumb "snaffle" and so I continued with it but wonder if I should go to a milder bit. I like that it is jointed and I can use one rein at a time without much confusion, but I know the jointed mouthpiece can also work on the tongue like a nutcracker. The first time I rode her in the front pasture, she wanted to constantly rack and I had to pull back so much she was getting irritated and bowed up like a rubber band. I did not feel safe. That is when we started working on a one-rein stop and she responds to that much better since it immediately disengages her hindquarters. However, if she is having a "fast" day, I find myself doubling her back an awful lot. I was looking at the IMUS TWH bits. They have one with mouthpiece with a roller in the middle that is somehow jointed, allowing the use of one rein but does not have the nutcracker effect on the tongue. Are you familiar with this bit? It is a bit pricey but I want Sweet tea to be comfortable and yet still be able to get a handle on her when I need to. I try to stay out of her mouth as much as possible....her reward for walking is a casual rein with very little or no contact. Any ideas?

Amanda,

I was checking out your photos (I love your menagerie!). Which horse is your three year old? I assume the dark horse since you mention Rocky Mountain. He has a very calm, sweet eye although you did mention that he had a biting problem. Poor Sweet Tea comes in from the pasture with a new bite or kick mark at least twice/week! Her pasture "buddy" is Kala, a grey QH boarder who is lead mare tending toward bully. Sigh. Kala is very sweet to people, but enjoys taking a cheap shot at Sweet Tea once in awhile with little to no warning. Sweet Tea loves her anyway.

Hey Amanda: glad all is going better for you all around, and congrats on the new horse! I'm sure you'll love her and her gaits. Are you riding her yet?

Yes, I had to make a very very hard decision to sell Mojo.. I really need another good lesson pony and I had to sell one to get one.., as I also got a smaller donkey before I sold Mojo. Mojo's in a great home that I get updates on him weekly and she loves him.. her grandkids are riding him and he's a pasture companion for her blind horse (and the horse's protector). I had many many calls on him and I chose what I considered to be the "best home" for him. Trained donkeys are hard to find. Untrained ones are a dime a dozen! Nevertheless, it was difficult saying goodbye as I thought I'd never sell him.
But, things change as they always do, and if I had a bigger place I'd love to keep them all, but I don't.
My pain is always but that is why I still do horses... keeps my mind focused on them instead of the pain!
Take care, Amanda, and keep on riding! Miss you and let me know if I can help you in any way!

Hi Amanda!

How are you doing? I've been thinking of you lately... who is the new horse? I hope things are going a little better for you these days. I like the photos!
