A Panhandle Horse Forum!! What a great idea :) My name is Deb Taylor and I live in Harold which is located 9 miles East of downtown Milton.

My husband and I spent two decades building our dream hobby farm on five acres and were fortunate enough to buy near miles of ridable logging trails. Most recently, 11,000 surrounding acres was bought up by the state of FL and added to the BLW Forest. There are about 25 miles of trails that will eventually be sanctioned as state horse trails. For now, it is being clear-cut by the paper mill as part of the purchase agreement and will eventually be replanted in native long leaf pine. So some of the views are desolate but many are still beautiful. Having lived in this area for so long, I am used to clear cutting and replanting and know that it will be mega beautiful when all is done and the trails marked. I am just happy to know that the land will not be developed for housing!

I enjoy trail riding about twice/week for 1-3 hours at a time. I recently made the big switch from quarter-type horses to a gaited horse. Previously I had raised and trained Sierra, a bay 1/2 Morgan, but at 11 years of age I made the difficult decision to ship her to my neice in PA since her summer allergies were so bad. I had also owned Sierra's mother, Shiloh, for 17 years but she had to be put down about a year ago due to liver failure. Shiloh started as an abused nutcase but ended up being a very solid citizen. Now I am beginning again with Sweet Tea, a chestnut TWH who is a retired 16 year old broodmare that also needs patient work and understanding. But I am looking forward to the day when Sweet Tea and my 54 year old bones can go down the trail in a hopefully smooth, lovely gait!

I share my farm with my new Tennessee Walker Mare, Sweet Tea, as well as a boarder horse, four goats, two dogs and a cat....my wonderful family of four legged critters! I do have one grown stepson who travels the U.S as a construction worker and who breezes through from time to time!

Hello Deb,
I did not mean to put you on the spot. I apologize. If you hear of any horse properties that are for rent/sale, please keep me in mind.
1 mom, 3 children, 2 horses, 2 dogs, 1 cat & numerous fish
Gratefully,

Is your home still for rent? I would love to be able to move up there. I am getting my first horse (one in the photo with me) and would like to live on the
property where I can board him. Unfortuneatly my job as a property manager is in S. Walton county. If you hear of any positions available in the area even Pensacola, let me know. Love your photos!

Arabian tree is a good idea (short/wide back) . . . I know there are several Arab western saddles . . . I need an English All Purpose or Jumping. I actually have a very wide Haflinger AP saddle for a fat QH (my Haflinger saddle doesn't fit the Haflinger). . . but it is a little too long for this new little pony. I also looked into the Icelandic saddles - and then read that they put you in the 'chair' position instead of the hip/shoulder/heel position. Thanks for your input . . . I LOVE your pictures. I'll go back to cruising EBay!

We enjoyed meeting you as well. Can't wait to hear how the robarts works. I'm sure she will make a great trail horse. She is such a sweet girl. I really like her. No, we couldn't find the house! We got lost. I guess you will have to show us.

Happy Mother's Day!

I don't get off work until 4:30 everyday but I can bring the bit over after that. What day is good for you? I'll call you tomorrow and we can set up a time. I'll bring another bit that's kind of like the Imus but has more tongue relief. You can try both and see which one you like. My husband finally got to ride his QH tonight, she has been off for 2 months because she had a bad cut on her leg that had to be stitched and doc said no riding for 2 months. We didn't ride for long because it started pouring! Of course!

The closest I get to you is the Coldwater Campground in the Blackwater state park...or something like that. It is near Milton I think. I am near Gulf Shores AL. We would welcome you to visit. I am realativly new to gaited horses, I bought my first one (not counting my mothers) less than 10 years ago. I still have her and she is the only non-home raised horse here. I hope to never buy another horse but to breed and raise my own. It seems they all have something wrong with them that needs to be fixed or dealt with.
